Years of Establishment

The Rural Community Development Organization (RCDO) operates from its main office in Khartoum, Sudan, with five field offices strategically located in (Gadaref State), El Geneina (West Darfur), Port Sudan (Red Sea State), Kassala (Kassala State), with recent regional office in Kampala (Uganda) to ensure effective program implementation.
Since its operation in 2007, RCDO has served as a trusted implementing partner for numerous UN agencies, including DCPSF, UNDP, UNHCR, FAO, UN-Habitat, UN-WOMEN, IOM, and UNICEF. Additionally, RCDO collaborates with a wide range of international NGOs (INGOs) such as NRC, NCA, IMC, SI, Concern Worldwide, CRS, MSF, Tearfund, and cooperation with private sector Hagaar Foundation.
The organization focuses on Peacebuilding and Women Empowerment, Protection, Food Security and Livelihoods, and Basic Services & Infrastructure including Education, Health, and Environmental Sustainability. Through these partnerships’ program, RCDO consistently delivers impactful and sustainable programs that address the needs of vulnerable communities across Sudan and Uganda.

Background Experience

Over the past seventeenth years, RCDO has been concentrating in implementing transitional and developmental programs, as well as emergency interventions. Our focus areas include Peacebuilding and Durable Solutions, Protection, Livelihoods (FSL), and Environmental Sustainability with fully engagement of community-based approach.

Our mission is to support Sudanese vulnerable groups including host communities, internally displaced persons, Nomads/ Pastoralists, and refugees from other countries. Recently RCDO established a liaison office in Uganda under The National Bureau of Non-Governmental Organization Act 2016, aiming to serve cross-border Sudanese urban and camp refugees. Additionally, it is plan to emerge initiatives to expand services among vulnerable Ugandan urban host communities and rural populations by providing tools and resources that promote self-sufficiency, resilience, and improved living conditions.

RCDO strategically plan to achieve these goals through targeted, cost-effective, community-based approach programs that designed to enhance economic opportunities, create sustainable household incomes, and address life-saving needs. Additionally, RCDO assists communities affected by natural disasters, conflict, and war to recover, rebuild, and enhance their livelihoods.

Since 2007, RCDO has been trusted implementing partner for various UN agencies, including DCPSF, UNDP, UNHCR, FAO, UN-Habitat, UN-Women, IOM, and UNICEF. In addition, RCDO has collaborated with a broad range of international NGOs (INGOs) such as NRC, NCA, IMC, SI, Concern Worldwide, CRS, MSF, Tearfund, and private sector Haggar Foundation.

Under its focus on Peacebuilding and Durable Solutions, RCDO has successfully implemented over 40 projects across key sectors, including WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Education, Health, Protection, Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL), and Environmental Sustainability. RCDO consistently adheres to donor guidelines, contractual agreements, and terms of reference, ensuring accountability, transparency, and alignment with project objectives.

Governance

The ultimate governance power resides with RCDO Board of Trustees (BoT) which consists of Five members and they are in charge of providing overall oversight and strategic vision to the organization’s executive committee which is headed by the Executive Director (ED). The BoT members elect the ED/ president of the organization and meet quarterly to review his / her performance. The membership of the board of trustees is a voluntary engagement and the members permittable to decide on adding maximum two new members to the board, currently the members who sit on the board are:

In addition to its BoT, RCDO is governed by the Sudan Humanitarian Assistance Commission (HAC) act (2006) and The Ugandan National Bureau of Non-governmental Organization Act 2016 . Internally RCDO is governed by a set of administrative and operational rules and regulations which are superseded by or add to Donor rules and regulations as stipulated on each contract.
